That's right folks, Numero Group has done it again! They are arguably the most scholastically-academic style reissue label out there. They dig deep for tracks and with their research.
This time they are hitting us with an 81 track, 4XCD/6XLP set focusing on the legendary Syl Johnson!
Johnson started out singing and playing with the likes of Howling Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Junior Wells, Billy Boy Arnold, Magic Sam and many others and moved on to his own success. His Music has been sampled by the likes of N.W.A., Boogie Down Productions, Wu Tang Clan, Tupac, Public Enemy and J. Dilla to name a few. Tonight we start with his early Doo Wop sounds through Soul to Funk and beyond.
